Creating a registered account
If you are a regular player, you can protect your name from being used by others by registering it. To do so, you need an active email address. After you have entered the game under the desired name, go to the 'Personalize' section and follow the instructions. Make sure that your junk email filters don't block the confirmation code that will be sent to you.

Use of chat
The chat feature lets players talk to each other whilst the game is running. Casual players will only be able to use the chat facility if they are participating in the game. This restriction was imposed as a result of too many users coming to WEBoggle solely to use the chat facility, with no intention on playing the game; such users disrupt genuine chatting of players, and place an unecessary burden on the server and bandwidth.

The restriction does not apply to players who have a registered account (that is, they have a password set). However, do not use this to circumvent the chat restriction - if you are caught being disrupting the chat, your account will be suspended.

Chatting while playing
Quickly switch between the word input box and chat input box by using the shortcut keys Alt-W and Alt-S respectively. That way, you won't have to use the mouse or repeatedly press the Tab and/or Shift-Tab keys. (Note: on newer web browsers, it may be necessary to depress the Shift key as well, i.e. Alt-Shift-W).

You may also chat without switching between the text input boxes. Simply place a quotation mark before what you want to say. You can use either a single quote, ', or double quote ".

What to do when the game 'locks up' or lags
For the majority of the time, the game runs quite well without any hitches. There will be unavoidable circumstances where the server becomes spontaneously overloaded, causing delays which range from a few seconds to a minute or two. This is usually due to a large number of users playing on the 4x4 and 5x5 version. The 5x5 version can use up to twice the processing power compared to the 4x4 game.

Currently, the only action players can take in such a circumstance is to wait until the server catches up.

Display problems
If the game does not look correct, or does not seem to fit on your screen, there may be a problem with your web browser.

One of the most common issues is all three columns do not fit on the screen neatly (e.g. the third column is pushed below the rest of the content). This is usually due to the font size setting (on your browser) being set to 'large'.

The game has been developed for, and is tested in the most common web browsers available (as of 2008). The list includes: Internet Explorer 6 & 7, Mozilla Firefox 1.5, 2 & 3, Netscape 7 and 8. If you are not using one of these, you should consider upgrading.
