TROUBLE MAKERS & Solutions... Hello. I have written to you before re this issue. We have "trolls" come onto the board at maybe a 30-120 minute stretch who try to disrupt the entire board and clutter it with chat that bogs down the entire board and ruins the fun for all. I still believe the only way to combat this problem is this: 1) NO ONE CHATS UNLESS THEY REGISTER. These trouble makers DO NOT have any desire to register. Anyone who wants to chat - are very welcome to register and participate in the conversation. Please allow them to visually SEE the chat, but NOT participate in chat if they do not register. Otherwise, us mods are chasing our tails trying to keep them off the board. Sometimes being the only Mod on the board, I have had to leave and the smut talk and extremely rude/childish behavior has to continue without anyone on board to help tamp it down. 2) Please allow for ONE to THREE day banning, this may also be another solution. It seems to be mostly high school kids on breaks (AM/Lunch) and also mid-evening time (CST that is). We really need solutions on this. Thanks for your consideration. |

TROUBLE MAKERS & Solutions... I agree with Jody, only registered players should be able to use the chat. There was a lot of stuff written in the chat...most of it disgusting...and it would have stayed there only for Jody stopping by earlier. A lot of these kids probably couldn't be bothered registering just to write crap in the chat, they can do it cos it's easy....making them register would probably stop a lot of it. Thanks |

Trouble Makers.... Just wanted to add that I had to delete numerous posts yesterday from kids who were randomly generating either rude names or names closely resembling current players' names. A lot of what they post is explicit, rude and annoying. I had to keep my eye on the chat and then quickly type in their names (not easy when they generate long awkward names) and delete their posts asap. But at that point in time, I know I was the only MOD playing. Not sure what the solution is as I know not all players favour the idea of registration in order to be able to chat but it does seem to be the only way we are going to put a stop to it. |

Have had mixed feelings about only registered players being allowed to chat, didn't want the site to seem 'exclusionary', but I am starting to see that it's almost become a must. Jody is so right about mods only being able to do so much and for only the time we are on. There are points in the day that it's just ridiculous. I'm no prude, but some of the stuff is just awful and there also needs to be some sort of system for names that people use too. They mite not chat, but their disgusting name is in the score box for all to see. Have to say tho, that at least we are able to erase/ban - better than it was a year ago!! Thx admin for that and hope something can be done to improve on it. |

Trouble Makers - Reply to Queen of Shieber Thanks for your input. You made some additional points that we run into as Mods. I would like to enjoy the board myself, and sometimes we run into spending all that free time in a frenzy, trying to stay right on top of the trouble before it gets out of hand. Really good points Queen. Thanks Admin for your consideration to this, we all will be appreciative! |

I have to admit, that I really wasn't excited about the idea of only having registered players being able to chat. But in lieu of what goes on with these school kids as of late, it seems like an end to a growing problem. The other day there were 3 of us mods on at the same time just banging out all the crap that these kids spew...none of us were able to play the game. Thank you admin, for continually making positive changes to the site & for listening to our input |

FIX THE LAG!!! We seem to be having major technological problems here. The site has been running extremely slow (lagging), freezing, and all but crashing for two days. What's GOING ON? Is someone working on this? Any idea when it might be working again? |

Unfortunately, we had to reduce the number of dedicated servers that Weboggle runs on. Previously, the load was spread across three servers. The site is now running on a single server. This was done for economic reasons (more servers = more electricity) and also for environmental reasons (less carbon emissions).
Major factors contributing to lag: 1. Large numbers of players ( > 10) on the 5x5 game. 2. Even larger numbers of players ( > 20) on the 4x4 game. 3. Website is not optimized. This is something I have wanted to fix for a long time. The code that runs the site needs re-working in order to make it more efficient. Of higher importance was the need for better chat moderation, and this was implemented over the past week when I had spare time. I will start optimizing the site and try to reduce the lag next time I get a spare moment. Thanks for your understanding. |
