noun ( plural Eddas )

1. Elder or Poetic or Verse Edda, a collection of old Icelandic poems on mythical and religious subjects, erroneously ascribed to Saemund Sigfusson (about 1055--1133).
2. Younger or Prose Edda, an old Icelandic work, compiled and partly written by Snorri Sturluson (1179--1241), containing ancient myths and legends of Scandinavia, rules and theories of verse-making, poems, etc.
